Long Gong

THE GAME-This is a 300yd shooting challenge (at Colonial weshoot at 200 yds at reduced targets) using rifles chambered in 22lr only. Theobject is to shoot the highest score possible.

THE TARGET- The targets are AR500 3/8” thick rimfire gongs,at 5.75”, a 4”, and a 2.75”. Each gong has a value, 1 point for the 5.75”, 2points for the 4”, and 3 points for the 2.75” gong.

THE SETUP- From a bench rest (limited to bipods and bags, nosleds or rests) each shooter, with 10 rounds of ammunition begins by shootngfor the 5.75” gong. The shooter has a 3-minute limit to complete their round,the clock starts with their first shot.

THE ORDER- If the shooter hits the 5.75”, they score 1 pointand now can choose to advance to the 4” gong or conuinue shootng for the 5.75”gong. If the shooter advances to the 4” gong and connects, that hit is worth 2points, and they now can choose to shoot for the 2.75” gong.

EXAMPLE- Dave shoots and hits the 5.75” gong, scoring 1point. Dave says he’s going to shoot for the 4”, he hits it scoring 2 morepoints. Dave says he’s going for the 2.75” gong, shoots and misses scoring azero, and now must move back to the 4” gong. If Dave misses his shot on the 4”,he will score another zero and be forced to move back to the 5.75” gong. IfDave hits the 4” he’ll score 2 points and again, have the opportunity to shootat the 2.75” gong.

THE RULES-The shooter must tell the scorekeeper when theyswitch gongs. A hit only counts if it’s a solid gong hit, chain hits do notcount. If the shooter misses, they must go back one gong. If the shooter shootsthe wrong gong, it counts as a zero and the shooter must resume shooting on thecorrect gong.

THE SCORE- The score is totaled after each shooter, with apossible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game hasevery shooter fire 5 complete sets for a total of 50 rounds of ammunition (1full box). The highest possible score for a competion is 135 points. In case ofa tie score, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest singleround score.

THE COMPETITORS- The order of the shooters in the first setis determined by drawing numbered chips, and in each successive set the orderof the shooters is determined by the scores, with the lowest score shootingfirst. If two or more shooters have identical scores, whoever shot the scoreinitially will shoot first in the following round. (If Tom shoots an 11, andthen Dave also shoots an 11, Tom will go before Dave in the following round.)

NRA Rules apply. Total of 30 shots.

Equipment required
Eye and ear protection Any 22 Rifle with any sight weighing
no more than 10 Ibs. 2 oz. total.

Stock must be either a "hunting"or
"Silhouette" stock. A timer, stapler, pen, spotting scope
and shooting vest are helpful.
Ammunition Any 22 standard velocity (1050 fps)
ammunition.

Course of fire.

30 minutes (including sight in period). All shots fired from the offhand
(standing) position. You will write your name on each target, number them 1,2,3
and staple 3 the NRA targets to a target holder. The range will be made safe and then you will put your target out at the 50 foot line. You are simply required to fire 2 shots at each of the 15 black circles on the three target boards. Top, center circle is for sight in only.

You have 30 minutes to do so.
Plenty of time. This is a slow paced, relaxed match. A perfect first match for new members to our rifle match program.

When shooting is completed the range will be made safe and you will retrieve
and hand in your targets for scoring.

Smoking and vaping is strictly prohibited during matches.

Position preference given to those that help set up on a first come basis. (Line up in the order you arrived)
You may only sign up a partner/spotter if they are present.
Requests to hold a spot will be accepted but not guaranteed
If not happy with available starting positions you may try working a switch with another shooter

Equipment Required:

Eye and ear protection

Any lever action rifle with a tubular magazine and an iron sight, chambered for a pistol caliber cartridge (.22, .22 mag, 25-20, 32-20, .357 mag, .44-40, .44 mag, and 45 long colt. 

Helpful Equipment:

A timer, binoculars (no spotting scopes), a shotgun (not silhouette) vest, clipboard and pencil

Ammunition:

Appropriate for rifle. No ball ammo or Full Metal Jacket. Although mag cases can be used for reloads, they must be loaded down to special velocity to avoid target damage. For commercial rounds must use .38 special and .44 special.

Course of fire:

20 minute sight in period prior to start of match.

10 rds. ea. at 40 (chickens), 60 (pigs), 77 (turkeys) & 100 (rams) yards.

All shots fired from the offhand (standing) position

Each animal is shot in banks of five. You will have a 30 second ready period to; load, shoulder and aim your rifle and 2 minutes to shoot 5 shots, one shot at each of the 5 animals. After a 30 second rest period you will repeat five shots on the second bank of five animals

When shooting is completed make your sight adjustments for the next animal. The range will be made safe and you will reset and paint any animals that were knocked over. When you return and the range is closed you will spot/score for the next relay. Once all relays are shot you will move to the next animal in the order; chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams 

There is no smoking on or behind the line during a match

KYL ( KNOW YOUR LIMITS )

     Targetsare 8 swinging steel targets ranging in sizes from 2” diameter to 1/4” diameter,decreasing in 1/4” increments at 50 yards Targets must be shot in order largestto smallest. Time limit of 2 minutes.

Fromthe time your name is called to shoot you get 2 minutes preparation for restsand rifle.

COURSEof FIRE

Startposition is rifle on bench mag loaded and bolt open. Semi auto is bolt closed,chamber empty, magazine inserted. Not touching gun, Palms flat on bench

Targetsmust visibly swing to be counted as a hit. You get 2 shots per target. If 2^nd.shot is a miss you lose all points accumulated to that point. If a target isshot out of order, you lose all points accumulated to that point.

If all 8 Targets are hit you may start again from beginning and add to your score.

Shootermay stop at any time and record all points scored to that point.

If youshoot all 8 you may start again from the beginning and add more points. Again adouble miss will lose all points. If you lose all points, you may start againfrom the beginning, time permitting

You mayshoot the course two times. Highest score will count. Scoring will be points accumulateddivided by time.

Rangecommands are; Are you ready? Beep & Stop. There are no alibis. Nocoaching/help allowed!

Equipment

22LRrifle, any sight

Sporter class: Non custom,off the shelf hunting rifle such as Anschutz 1712 or CZ 452-7. Weight, withscope, under 9.0 lbs.

Competition class: Rifleover 9.0 lbs or having any of the following: Bull barrel, Pistol grip,Adjustable cheek piece, barrel tuner, muzzle break or level

Semi Auto: Any semi auto.22LR

22LRammunition with a maximum velocity of 1300fps. .

Frontand rear bags or bipod are allowed. No sleds or rests

5 round magazines You may single load
